The Taxonomy of Breathing

The Taxonomy of Breathing is a project created by my longtime collaborator Edgar Endress that “investigates our current societal moment through the lens of breath.” Along with Edgar and artists Courtney Applequist, Reed Griffith, Chonga Peter Lee and Jeremy Kunkel, I created an electroacoustic piece entitled Gasp, for SATB Choir and fixed audio; an electronic piece ChangeMakers, The King of the Mind, and the Shared Experience of the Breath; and a fully-acoustic piece entitled Concert for the Trees (to be premiered 2022). IceBox Collective, through the Taxonomy of Breathing project, seeks to encourage critical thought and dialogue across cultural boundaries to foster empathy, ideas & relationships with the intention of creating an international round table discussion where shared knowledge will allow us and the communities with which we engage to gain a more complete understanding of the complexities of this historic moment.
